Mark’s collection nominated for Seamus Heaney Prize

I’m delighted to announce that my first collection NEXT TO NOTHING AND THIS WAS MEANT TO BE A STORY, winner of Beir Bua Press’s Laurence Sterne Prize has been nominated for The Seamus Heaney Poetry Prize for First Full Collection in 2023. The prize, which is part of The Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen’s University Belfast, comes with a winning award of £5,000 and has seen previous winners such as Victoria Kennefick, Sumita Chakraborty, Laura Scott and Ned Denny.

You can get a copy of my book from Beir Bua Press here and find an extract from it alongside lots of other amazing poets in An Experimental Poetry Anthology – Beir Bua Press 2022 (here) which collects together highlights from the last year’s Beir Bua publications.

Cross your fingers folks. Five grand would keep me in notebooks and mechanical pencils for quite a while.
