Clare has been writing seriously since the age of sixteen and after completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield, she realised she wanted to pursue writing, a conclusion that she says was “violently staring her in the face” since as a nine-year-old she wrote “bad poems in the front of books that I loved.”
Now she is taking every opportunity to grow and improve her craft, starting a writer’s collective with her best friend from university and regularly posting her work on socials, even though she hates “being vulnerable and posting work puts my heart in my mouth.” She has been submitting work to various publications since finishing her BA and is looking forward to beginning her MA in Creative Writing at University of Leeds in September.
What we liked: Clare’s use of language in When I Hear Home Calling is confident, giving the poem an intimate feel with some truly beautiful phrasing.
