In the summer of 2022 Cut Collective put out an open call to give new, unpublished writers an opportunity to present their work on our website. Of the many excellent entries we got, we chose the following four writers who we believed showed talent and promise that deserved to be seen by a wider audience.
It’s our pleasure to present below the work of Katie Brear, Harley J Ryley, Sanyukta Srivatsa and Anne Vogel-Smith. We are certain that you will enjoy their work as much as we did.
KATIE BREAR - Moments in Dust
Katie writes experimental poetry and prose relating to gender, political, social, and class issues. She recently completed a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, where she sat many creative writing modules, which sparked an enjoyment in writing. As a result, she has recently started a master’s degree in English Literature (Creative Writing) to continue studying in her field of interest.
HARLEY J RYLEY - Extract from Fable
Harley is a poet living in Sheffield, UK. Her poetry explores the accumulated things that shape us - from the physical pile of bus tickets marking countless journeys to the tiny daily traumas we experience that take root in our minds. In 2022 she marked her first foray into putting her work out in the world and she hopes to do more of that in the months to come.
SANYUKTA SRIVATSA - A Giddiness
Sanyukta is a writer from Mumbai, India. Having come to the UK to enhance her skills as a writer, she uses her pieces to understand the culture she grew up with and to make sense of a world outside of it.
ANNE VOGEL-SMITH - Extracts from Anti-Voyage
Anne was born in France but has lived in England for as long as she did in her country of birth, so the appeal to write in either French or English is very strong to her. She loves experimenting with languages, writing styles and voices - such as the the vivid intersection of identities within and around herself.
